Mentally handicapped people are treated as third class citizens in the mental health system.
They are subjected to abuse and with indifference by incompetent therapists and hospital employees.
Most people who fall into the system are used as human test subjects for new psychological theories and new drugs.
Most of those tests are not related to or beneficial to the illness the person has.
The mental health system is a source and repository for test subjects.
I read that psychologists have one of the highest suicide rates.
Initially I thought it was only because they see so much suffering and we don't have the knowledge or means to help them.
But it's also because of all the abuse, indifference and incompetence in the system.
